STAKE INDEXING CHALLENGE

STAKE GOAL

To have every ward have at least 64 people participate in doing one batch of indexing. The temple poster has 64 squares. Each ward will “build” a temple by having participants fill in a square with the name of an individual from the document they indexed, along with a temple they will choose.

WHY

  • To help members become familiar with how to index.
  • Help members to understand that indexing a document helps people find their ancestors.
  • Help members understand that indexing and temple ordinances are connected.
  • Help members learn how to submit names to the prayer roll using the lds.org website.

  1. Log in to ChurchofJesusChrist.org
  2. Type “Temple List” in search bar
  3. Click on 'Temple List' then 'Status' then 'Operating Temples'
  4. Pick any temple you’d like, anywhere in the world!
  5. Click on 'Submit names to the temple' then 'Prayer Roll' and enter the name you picked while indexing and submit!

Add the name of the person and temple you chose to our poster, and feel good about doing something awesome!!!

how to do it

Using FamilySearch.org, go to the Indexing tab and choose Web Indexing. Find a batch tab and choose a batch. While indexing the document identify a name on the document that interests you in some way. Write the name down.

After submitting the batch, go to ChurchofJesusChrist.org or lds.org and sign in. In the search bar type temple list, click on temple list and then click on status and choose the operating temples tab. Then choose any temple in the world that you want and click on it. When the info for that temple comes up scroll down and find the submit names to the temple option. Click on submit names to the temple. Enter the name of the person you chose from your indexed document. 

We want people to understand the connection between indexing and the temple. We want that person from your indexed batch to be added to somebody’s family tree and we want the ordinances done for them. Then go to the ward poster and in a box write the name of the temple you chose and the name of the person indexed.
